Feels Like Fall

Updated: Oct 20, 2023

The weathers been feeling like fall, and I’ve found myself fully embracing it. I’ve been reminiscing on past autumns and how fall makes me feel. Of the four seasons, I’ve concluded that autumn is my favorite. I’ve gone back and forth between autumn and summer, but autumn makes me feel more. By feel, I mean raw emotions. There’s a certain sadness to the weather getting colder and the trees losing their leaves. I’ve always felt this sadness, but I recently just pinpointed it. Call this seasonal depression, but I like it. I like feeling that feeling of warm to cold, bright to dark, color to dull. I’m not sad when fall comes around, but deep inside, I’ve felt that same melancholy when returning to school, apple picking, and seeing foliage. No other season change makes me feel as deeply as fall does. The sadness sparks a kind of fire underneath my productivity. All of a sudden I want to be productive and make something of myself. Regaining that feeling I think is the reason why autumn is my favorite. Routine as well, routine is always lost in the summer and regained in the fall. I also feel like I don’t have to do something extraordinary in fall where summer has this pressure of doing something cool and different to tell your friends when you get back. Not even something cool or fun but now that I’m in college summer means internships and building a resume and staying with my parents. I’ve never been a halloween person but recently I’ve been loving the spooky vibe, I never liked horror movies but my roommate and I got a TV for our dorm and I love a good horror movie while we’re both cuddled up. This is also my first halloween in New York City and I love it. So it’s official I’m declaring fall as my favorite season.
